Gold Coast Tourist Attractions

Australia’s Gold Coast is in Queensland situated between Brisbane and New South Wales. It is a surfer’s destination.

The Gold Coast is comprised of many districts or suburbs. The north has housing developments and the south is commercial with business, shops and government complexes. Beaches are located in between with the Main Beach – the locale of resorts, Surfers Paradise – the greatest intensity of tourist hotels and attractions, Currumbin, Tungun and Bilingi – close to the airport and highway, and Broad beach -also a tourist magnet with a casino and shopping.

The Gold Coast’s climate is moderate with steady temperatures around 29C high in summer and 21C in winter. Rainfall is minimal in winter, and the summer has numerous storms.

The Gold Coast has many beaches extending over 40km. Professional lifeguards and volunteers guard most of the beaches. Yellow and red flags indicate the areas that are watched over. The notices on the beach indicate which beaches are the most intensely patrolled.

Visitors are reminded to use the beach between the flags at all times as the flags designate the beaches that are the safest and most frequently guarded. If a swimmer gets into difficulty or is pulled out by rip tide, the best advice is to swim parallel to the beach and not go against the water, plus wave for help.

Usually the beach across from Cavil Ave is filled with tourists. Broad beach is south of Surfers Paradise, with similar surf as Surfers Paradise, but not as busy. Kurrawa Park, with a casino and restaurants, is across from the beach. North Burleigh, near Broad beach, is not as hectic as Burleigh Heads, but is enjoyable is the winds are from the north and it is protected by a hill Northern winds sometimes cause jellyfish to come to the beach so that is a deterrent to swimming. Burleigh Heads, south of North Burleigh, is a beach with a park and picnic area, plus a snack bar, The beach is more enjoyable when the south winds are blowing. Kirra is known for its surfing. Tallebudgeera Creek is a lagoon well liked by families and for those who do not want to swim in the surf. Greenmount Beach, located in Coolangatta, provides views of the coast.

Travelers will find many choices in Gold Coast hotels. Rydges Perth is found in downtown near shops and entertainment. It is owned by an Australian company. Duxton Hotel Perth has twin and double rooms. Best Western Emerald Hotel has rooms with kitchenettes. Two alternatives to traditional Perth Hotels are those with apartment offerings- the Arron’s All Suites and Waterbird Executive Apartments.
